| The AOCI financial assistance program The Adoption Option Committee can provide financial assistance for birth mothers in Minnesota who make an adoption plan. Call 612-944-0866 or e-mail us at info@aoci.org for more information. The woman who carries a pregnancy to term and places her child for adoption has made a series of loving and difficult decisions. She also has special needs. Her emotions are under stress, and her supporting personal relationships are probably strained or absent. Her adoption plan brings additional expenses that are overlooked by governmental assistance and by insurance. She may be overwhelmed by the challenges of beginning her life over again. Since May 1985, AOCI has affirmed the adoption choice of birth mothers in Minnesota through a program of financial grants. Even a small sum can make a difference. One young woman made her initial tuition payment for nursing school. Another provided clothing suitable for her job interviews. After paper work has been signed, women who need our assistance make application through their social workers. Assistance is approved by our committee subject to availability of funds and to the appropriate nature of the grant request. AOCI's interest is to make grants that help needy Minnesota women build new and independent lives. Each grant has its own story about the importance of a helping hand. Often these young women have heard approval from no other source. Several have written to thank AOCI for this assistance and for our affirmation of their courage in carrying through their adoption plans. For those in need this program can be vital for a new start in life. |
